<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To effectively utilize received character data for car navigation functions, in a system capable of receiving broadcast containing character data. <P>SOLUTION: A car navigation system 1 has a method for designating a desired character string as a keyword, from character data being displayed on the screen of a display 7, when a television broadcast, including the character data as one method for enabling a user to search the surrounding facilities (destination setting), is received. In this case, the user can designate a keyword from the characters being displayed by the operation of a touch panel 5b. After designating the character string, the user selects an attribute for giving significance to the designated keyword.
