PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reliably prevent illumination light for total internal reflection from being leaked outside, and also, to irradiate a sample from above with transmissive-light. SOLUTION: The opening area of a hole 23A of the condenser lens cover 11 is larger than a moving range of the opening 52C of a light shield cover 52 that moves as a stage 114 moves, the total internal reflection light leaked through the opening 52C of the light shield cover 52 after being emitted from an objective lens 116 is made incident to the hole 23A, then, shielded by the inner surface of the condenser lens cover 11. The transmissive illumination light emitted from the condenser lens 119 is transmitted through the hole 23A of the condenser lens cover 11 and the opening 52C of the light shield cover 52, thereafter, emitted from the condenser lens 119, and then, emitted to the sample in a sample holder 151.
