PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for manufacturing a magnetic recording medium having high output and high S/N. SOLUTION: Provided is the method of manufacturing the magnetic recording medium which has at least a magnetic layer of≤0.1μm thickness on one surface of a non-magnetic supporting body. The magnetic layer is formed by applying a magnetic paint containing magnetic powder, a binder resin and an organic solvent. The magnetic powder has 10 to 40 nm average particle diameter. The magnetic paint is manufactured by a method including: a dispersion step for dispersing the magnetic powder in the binder resin by using a media type disperser to obtain a magnetic liquid; and a dilution step for diluting the magnetic liquid with a dilution liquid containing the organic solvent. In the dilution step, the magnetic liquid and the dilution liquid are mixed/dispersed by using a collision type disperser. COPYRIGHT: (C)2009,JPO&INPIT
