A system (1) is described for processing a message that updates a schedule. The system comprises one or more host units (2,4) each comprising means for formatting a message to include specified destination information and means for causing the formatted message to be sent to a mobile data communication device (12) of the data communication system (12). The system (1) also comprises one or more mobile data communication devices (12) each comprising (a) means for receiving messages, (b) a message inbox (34) arranged to processing received messages, (c) a scheduler application (28) arranged to maintain a schedule, (d) a listener module (30) for checking messages received by said receiving means for the presence of the specified destination information and, if the specified destination information is detected, diverting the received message to the scheduler application (28).
