PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing polyester for toner which has excellent low temperature fixability, can maintain preferable solid image following property even in long-term printing, has excellent storage stability, and reduces emission of bad odor. SOLUTION: The method for producing polyester for toner includes processes of: (a) reacting rosin with an unsaturated carboxylic acid in the presence of a polymerization inhibitor to obtain a reaction mixture containing a modified rosin and having an iodine value of not more than 120 gI<SB>2</SB>/100 g; and (b) subjecting a carboxylic acid component containing the reaction mixture obtained in the process (a) to condensation polymerization with an alcohol component containing aliphatic polyhydric alcohols to obtain the polyester.
