The device has an input device to input price of fuel (13) e.g. gasoline, per quantity unit, and a memory (31) including a memory element (32) to store the price of fuel per quantity unit. A computation unit (30) is designed and arranged in such a manner that the computation unit determines an additional value from a value of a sensor (20) and the value stored in the memory, where the additional value results in consumption of fuel converted into a monetary unit. The additional value is displayable on a display device (40) alone or additional or alternate to other values. An independent claim is also included for a method for evaluating and displaying driver operation characteristics of a motor vehicle.
