797,812. Container closures. CHAPMAN, H. E., and MORTIMORE, J. B. Oct. 2, 1956, No. 29938/56. Class 125(3). A closure for a parenteral injection bottle or other vessel 1 has a central plug 2 with germicidal and fungicidal properties and an annular compartment 3 partly filled with air filtering and sterilizing material 4 and formed by a container 5 closed by a cover 6 having an aperture 8 through which outside air can enter. The part 5 has an aperture through which depends a tubular extension 9 of a rotary valve 10 having an axial passage 11 opening into branch passages 12 and into the inside of bottle 1. Compartment 3 is divided into two halves by vertical divisions 14, one half containing the filter material 4 so that air entering aperture 8 can, when valve 10 is turned to the appropriate position, pass through material 4, through gaps 15 in divisions 14 into spaces 16 and through passages 17, 12 into the bottle. Valve 10 has a square shape trunnion 18 engaging a square hole in an operating plate 19 having an integral stud 20 engaging a slot 23 in a cap 21 freely rotatable about the bottle neck but secured thereon by a flange 22 engaging a groove 7 in the bottle neck. The bottle is filled or emptied by means of a hollow needle introduced through plug 2 via aperture 24 in the cap. In a modification, Fig. 10, suitable for storing milk or fruit juices &c., the plug 2 is replaced by a hollow rotatable plug 44 having a one-way rubber valve 47 for discharging the contents.
