The method involves providing a forward converter in a switching power supply, and controlling the converter with a variable switching frequency according to a current-mode-principle. An actual load voltage is reproduced at a side of a power supply system, while a voltage that lies at a primary sided-switching element is averaged at a primary winding of a transformer (T1) during a blocking phase. The frequency is lowered when the load voltage that is proportional to the averaged voltage drops below a predetermined threshold value. An independent claim is also included for a switching power supply having a controller. |
