The invention relates to the detection of infectious diseases. A system for automatic detection of infectious diseases is disclosed. The system comprises an input unit for receiving a blood sample, a lysis unit, a PCR unit, a sample unit and a detection unit. The system may based on an inputted blood sample generate an output signal that is indicative of the presence of pathogen DNA in the blood sample.
