A threshing and separating mechanism (24) for a combine (10) includes an elongated rotor (37) mounted for rotation about a rotor axis (RA) on the combine (10) within a housing (36). The rotor (37) has a threshing portion and a separating portion. The housing has a threshing section (39) and a separating section (40) corresponding to the threshing portion and the separating portion of the rotor (37). The housing (36) surrounds the rotor (37) and is spaced from the rotor (36) to form an annular space between the rotor (37) and the housing (36) for crop material to flow through in an axial crop flow direction from an inlet end of the housing (36) to an outlet end of the housing (36). The housing (36) includes a frusto-conical transition section (200) between the threshing section (39) and the separating section (40) of the housing (36).
