The system (14) has a passive force transmitting device (18) applying restoring torque to a steering wheel (12) towards its reference position. An active force transmitting device (16) applies force transmitting torque to the steering wheel. The device (16) applies opposition torque opposing the torque applied by the device (18) to avoid the return of the steering wheel to its reference position. A rotative shock absorber absorbs oscillations of an elastic return unit, and is connected to an axle of the steering wheel. An independent claim is also included for a method for controlling a force transmitting system.
