PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To further reduce a rotary electric machine in size and weight by further reducing its size in an axial direction. SOLUTION: In the segment type stator 6, a turn portion 3 of a segment conductor 1 having a rectangular cross section is formed in a pair of vertical steps. Since the turn portion 3 is deviated by one layer in a radius direction on its apex, the steps of both the step-like portions are each disposed so as to straddle over the steps of the step-like portion of an adjacent segment conductor 1. In this way, a height H of protrusion of a coil end portion 81 from an end surface 71 of a stator core 7 is reduced to about one-third of conventional product, and thus, the entire length of the rotary electric machine can be reduced to achieve miniaturization and lightweight. When the stator is applied to each of a pair of rotary electric machines to be coaxially disposed so as to oppose in a drive apparatus of a hybrid car, the drive apparatus can be reduced in size and weight.
