PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an information recording and reproducing device, capable of protecting recording data from missing even in the event of an accident by power supply interruption with a structure which does not cause increase in size or cost of the device. SOLUTION: The information recording and reproducing device 1 comprises a nonvolatile cache memory part 10 which stores recording data transmitted from a host computer 2; a disk device 30 which contains a disk and a volatile buffer memory; a free space detection means 21 which acquires free space information of the volatile buffer memory part of the disk device; and an unrecorded area management control means 22 which calculates boundary position information 14 which shows a boundary of a data area in which recording to the disk is not completed in the cache memory part based on the free space information and performs recording to a part 16 of the cache memory part.
