PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus that has a controller capable of estimating service life of a photoreceptor speedily and accurately by detecting the deterioration of the photoreceptor caused by delay in charging. SOLUTION: The image forming apparatus develops an electrostatic latent image formed on a photoreceptor drum 8 with toner, makes it visible, transfers the toner image onto a recording medium, and fixes the toner image on the recording medium to its surface with heat and pressure. The image forming apparatus has the controller 9 that includes: a measuring means 3 which measures the surface potentials of the photoreceptor drum 8 during its first and second rotations; and a service life predicting means which predicts the service life of the photoreceptor drum 8 from the surface potential difference between the first and second rotations.
