PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a technique enabling anyone to easily and efficiently retrieve desired information. SOLUTION: The retrieval system comprises a thesaurus DB 15 which systematically classifies and stores a plurality of words based on the concepts or meanings thereof; an input part 10 used by a user to input one or more retrieval words; a similar word extraction part 11 which extracts similar words of the input retrieval words from the DB 15; a retrieval expression generation part 12 which generates a retrieval expression from the input retrieval words and the similar words; and a retrieval engine 13 which executes retrieval using the retrieval expression and outputs the retrieval result.
