Oxidizing agents, for example alkali bichromates, permanganates or chlorates, ammonium persulphate or hydrogen peroxide, are added to flotation pulp either during or subsequent to grinding to destroy flotation poisons in the form of soluble metallic salts, e.g. ferrous sulphate, which are associated with or contained in the minerals to be concentrated. An example is given of the separation of copper sulphides from iron pyrites using potassium bichromate as oxidizing agent, lime as a depressant and cresol, pine oil and potassium xanthate as flotation reagents. Specifications 11471/13 and 22145/14, [both in Class 82 (ii), Washing granular &c.], are referred to.
|
