Provided is a preparation comprising oligomeric amyloid beta(1-42) protein or a labelled, immobilized and/or cross-linked derivative of oligomeric amyloid beta(1-42) protein, wherein said oligomeric amyloid beta(1-42) protein has an apparent molecular weight of about 38 kDa and/or 48 kDa in SDS gel electrophoresis, the proportion of the oligomeric amyloid beta(1-42) protein being at least 60% by weight of total amyloid beta(1-42) protein in the preparation. Further provided are various methods of producing the preparation, antibodies to the preparation and use of the claimed compositions for manufacture of vaccines to treat amyloid beta associated disorders, including Alzheimer's disease.
