Said machine also comprises a needle (6) which can be displaced back and forth and a clasp for the items to be sewn (9b), which can be displaced in direction-y, in addition to a button hole cutting device (13), comprising a cutter (36) which is arranged on the base plate (2) and which is provided with a linear cutting part (37) extending in the direction-y, and an eye cutting part (38) arranged on one end. Said machine also comprises a cutting block (15) which co-operates with the cutter (36) and a cutting drive (16) for displacing the cutting block (15) in a vertical direction-z counter to the cutter (36).
