The control system for sound reproduction takes account of the spatial co-ordinates and temporal co-ordinates of the loudspeakers, before determining the control signals required. Signals are applied loudspeakers at a number of locations in a room, with filtering relevant to individual loudspeaker positions, in order to provide optimum high quality sound reproduction. The control system for a sound reproduction unit (2) operates with a number of loudspeakers (31 - 3N) in an acoustic field (4). The first step includes establishing a finite number of coefficients representative of the temporal distribution and spatial distribution in three dimensions of the loudspeakers in the acoustic field. The second step includes determination of the representative reconstruction filters for the sound reproduction unit, and spatial configuration of the unit. Control signals (SC1 to SCN) are determined for the loudspeakers (31 - 3N) by the application of the coefficients to the reconstruction filters, and these control signals are then applied to the loudspeakers. |
