PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a solid-state imaging apparatus which reduces the deterioration of an image caused by a dark current, and a drive method thereof. SOLUTION: In the solid-state imaging apparatus 10, a standby position determination part 30 determines a sensitivity mode set in a main apparatus 10, and according to the determination result, a packet standby position at a vertical transfer path 54 for storing a signal electric charge read from each photosensitive part 52 of an imaging part 20 is determined, when the sensitivity mode is in high sensitivity, a changed standby position 64 reduced in the influence of the dark current than at a normal standby position 62 is selected, a system control part 14 outputs a control signal 104 according to the standby position determined by the standby position determination part 30 to control each part, whereby the influence of the dark current is reduced, the noise of a photographed image is suppressed, and image quality is improved.
