PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To surely prevent knocking in change over from compression ignition combustion to spark ignition combustion. SOLUTION: EGR is executed for avoiding knocking and an air-fuel ratio is enriched during change over from compression ignition combustion to spark ignition combustion. A basic value of enriched air-fuel ratio is set according to engine speed and/or load. A correction value of the enriched air-fuel ratio is set according to a deviation amount of an actual EGR rate from a target EGR rate.
