PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a recording and reproducing device for preventing damage of a recording medium or a recording and reproducing part when two or more recording media are loaded on a tray. SOLUTION: The recording and reproducing device 10 is provided with a casing 12 for housing a recording and reproducing part, and a tray insertion port 14 is formed on the front face of the casing 12. At a right and left side edges of the upper part of the tray insertion port 14 on the front face of the casing 12, a recessed groove 18 is formed leading to the tray insertion port 14 and extending toward the right and left sides. The recessed groove 18 includes upper and lower edges facing each other in a vertical direction, and one of the upper and lower edges is formed as a tray insertion port side reference part for determining the vertical height of a tray 16 with respect to the tray insertion port 14. At the center of the upper edge of the tray insertion port 14 on the front face of the casing 12, a projected part 20 is formed to protrude toward the tray insertion port 14.
