PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus capable of improving a copy operation with the necessary minimum number of memories conforming to a system configuration without having an expensive and large-capacity storage device dedicated for a page memory. SOLUTION: This image forming apparatus has: a configuration change detecting means for managing the configuration of the image forming apparatus and detecting a change in the configuration; an image data storage section capacity determining means for determining the capacity of the image data storage section and the number of page memories on the basis of the configuration change information about the data storage section; and an image data storage section capacity changing means for changing the capacity of the image data storage section and the number of the page memories.
