PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a foreign matter detector of an elevator door effectively operating in catching a thin string-like foreign bodies or a string-like foreign bodies in contact with a floor surface, and capable of preventing a car from continuing to vertically move with the string-like foreign bodies caught in a space between doors. SOLUTION: This foreign matter detector of an elevator door is provided with: the doors 3a and 3b opening/closing an entrance 2 of the car 1 of the elevator; operating members 11 arranged to extend in the vertical direction along door stop surfaces of the doors, and vertically moving the door stop surfaces; detectors 15 detecting relative position change by the vertical movement of the operating members; and a control device 10 stopping the vertical movement of the car by the outputs of the detectors.
