PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce power loss and noise while promoting reduction in size of a power converter which converts AC three-phase power into DC power by performing input current control for improving input power factor and voltage control of the output stage. SOLUTION: Inverter circuits 100a-100c of respective phases each connecting one or more single-phase inverters in series are connected in series with the input lines of respective phases from an AC power supply 1, and short circuit switches 5a-5c and rectifier diodes 6a-6c, and an output smoothing capacitor 7 connected with the cathodes of the rectifier diodes 6a-6c are provided on the post-stage thereof. Only in the short circuit phase range 9 of±θ<SB>1</SB>from the zero-cross phase (θ=0,π) of the input voltage of each phase, the short circuit switches 5a-5c are turned on, the DC voltage of the smoothing capacitor 7 is made to follow up a target voltage, and output control of the inverter circuits 100a-100c of respective phases is performed to improve the input power factor by using the current commands of respective phases.
