<p>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a variable intake device for serial 4-cylinder internal combustion engine capable of providing high intake filling efficiency and a high output torque over a wide rotating speed range and simplified in structure without requiring a large space. SOLUTION: Four mutually independent intake passages 41-44 having one-side ends communicating and connecting with each cylinder of serial four cylinders and the other ends communicating and connecting with a single intake air collecting chamber 5 are serially arranged in parallel to the cylinder arrangement direction every group of cylinders whose suction strokes are not continued and a rotary valve 3 provided in the middle of the intake passage 41-44 is switched according to rotating speed of an internal combustion engine so that all adjacent intake passages 41 and 44, 44 and 42, 42 and 43 or a pair of adjacent intake passages 41 and 44, 42 and 43 having one-side ends communicating and connecting with each cylinder in the group of cylinders whose suction strokes are not mutually continued can be allowed to mutually communicate or interrupted, and each intake passage 41-44 can be allowed to communicate with or interrupted from the intake air collecting chamber 5 in a short-circuited state.</p> |
