In a display panel (1), an active element has an active matrix type pixel region (AR1) employing a three terminal element and the pixel region (AR1) has a nonrectangular shape because the number of the three terminal elements connected with each scanning signal line (GL) of the pixel region (AR1) is determined arbitrarily depending on the position where each scanning signal line (GL) is provided. A shift register (4) for driving the scanning signal line (GL) is formed in a region adjacent to the extending direction of the scanning signal line (GL) in the pixel region (AR1) for the pixel region (AR1) on a panel substrate. Consequently, a display panel with the nonrectangular pixel region of odd-shape in which the routing region of peripheral wiring can be reduced on the outside of the pixel region is attained.
