PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a compact optical image reading apparatus processing a long document. SOLUTION: The optical image reading apparatus is provided with: a circulation type conveyer 5 circularly conveying a document received into a housing; a contact sensor 15 arranged on a first position of the conveyer 5 near an inlet, to read information from the document passing through the first position; a printing part arranged near a second position which is advanced from the first position on the conveyer 5 by a prescribed distance to print out the document from which information is normally read out; flappers 18, 24 arranged on the rear of the second position in the conveying direction to sort the document to a circulating direction for returning it to the first position or a discharging direction; and a controller 40 for controlling the flappers 18, 24 so as to sort a document whose information is read out by the contact sensor 15 to the circulating direction C when the document has a length exceeding a conveying distance L from the first position to the second position.
