PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enhance the detection accuracy of a synchronization error between an engine control module (ECM) and valve control unit (VCU). SOLUTION: A control system of a multiple cylinder engine (10) equipped with electric valve actuation (51) comprises at least one cylinder (30) containing an engine cylinder valve (52), a second controller (140) operably coupled to the engine cylinder valve (52) so as to adjust at least one piece of valve opening timing and valve closing timing of the engine cylinder valve (52), and a first controller (12) which is connected with the second controller (140) via a first link (206) and second link (208) and which transmits an engine position indication signal to the second controller (140) via the first link (206) and receives a status signal from the second controller (140) via the second link (208) so as to output a synchronization degradation signal in response to a synchronization error between the engine position indication signal and status signal.
