<p>A mercury-free flat lamp of the present invention consists of a base plate (2) made of glass, a top plate (3), a spacer (4), an anode (5) and a cathode (6). The anode and the cathode are embedded in an insulator layer (7), which can be a frit glass layer. An electric discharge chamber formed by the base plate, the top plate and the spacer is filled up with xenon gas. The inner surface of the base plate and the top plate are covered with a phosphor screen (8) respectively. As an alternating electric field is supplied between the anode and the cathode, electric discharge occurs and the xenon gas in the chamber emits vacuum ultraviolet light, which is converted to visible light by the phosphor screens.</p> |
