PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a novel paramagnetic metal ion chelate, and to provide a method of using the same as a contrast mediums for a diagnostic technique that is known as a magnetic resonance imaging (M.R.I.) method. SOLUTION: The compound is represented by A-L-B [wherein A is a bile acid residue selected from cholic acid, deoxycholic acid, chenodeoxycholid acid, ursodeoxycholic acid and lithocholic acid or their conjugates with taurine or glycine; L is a bonding group such as -NH-, -NH-CH2-CO-NH-, -NH-(CH2)2-NH-, -NH-CO-CH2- or the like; B is a residual group of diethylenetriaminepentaacetic acid (DTPA), 1,4,7,10-tetraazacyclododecan-1,4,7,10-tetra acetic acid (DOTA) or 10-(2-hydroxypropyl)-1,4,7,10-tetraazacyclododecane-1,4,7-tri acetic acid (HPDO3A) and the like].
