PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus which can set a power-saving shift time conformed to a service mode at a low cost and can appropriately hold the shift time. SOLUTION: The image forming apparatus is equipped with an image forming means (printing mechanism part 104) which carries out image formation on the basis of received printing information, a shifting means (power-saving shift time control part 102 etc.) which shifts the apparatus itself to a preliminarily set power-saving mode when a predetermined transition period passes, a calculating means (power-saving shift time control part 102 etc.) which calculates an occurrence frequency of processing related to the image formation, and a changing means (power-saving shift time control part 102 etc.) which changes the predetermined transition period according to the occurrence frequency calculated by the calculating means.
