A device for erecting a safety barrier around the perimeter of a roof includes a clamp plate 5 with an integral or attached fixed clamp arm 4 and an adjustable clamp arm 2 which can be moved toward the fixed clamp arm to clamp the plate to a rafter 31. A hollow section 9 is welded to the clamp plate and receives and clamps a bent post attachment fitting which has a socket at the distal end into which a post can be inserted. The post is provided with fittings to which a rail can be attached.
