<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a color filter for satisfactorily regenerating an intermediate tone of color when used in a liquid crystal display, and easily designing a color of a colored layer of each color. <P>SOLUTION: This color filter has at least a transparent substrate, the red colored layer formed on the transparent substrate, the green colored layer formed on the transparent substrate, the blue colored layer formed on the transparent substrate, and the yellow colored layer formed on the transparent substrate, and a contrast C<SB>B</SB>of the blue colored layer (brightness of light transmitted through the blue colored layer in white display/brightness of light transmitted through the blue colored layer in black display) is within a range of 2-5, when a contrast C<SB>Y</SB>of the yellow colored layer (brightness of light transmitted through the yellow colored layer in white display/brightness of light transmitted through the yellow colored layer in black display) is 1.
