PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an aluminum-based material which has high strength, high hardness and superior forgeability, and to provide a manufacturing method therefor. SOLUTION: The aluminum-based material contains crystal grains of an aluminum alloy, and includes (1) fine particles of a scandium compound, and (2) the crystal grains having grain sizes of 5μm or less in an amount of 100 pieces or more per 1,000μm<SP>2</SP>of the aluminum-based material.
