PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a projection unit capable of restraining an image from being fuzzy by a temperature change of a projection side optical system, without providing a complicated mechanism, and a projector provided with the projection unit. SOLUTION: This projector 10 is provided with a light source device 63, an optical unit block 77, a cooling fan, and a projector control means, the optical unit block 77 is constituted of an illumination side block 78 provided with one part of an illumination unit for guiding a light from the light source device 63, an image generation block 79 provided with one part of the illumination unit and a display element 51, and a projection side block 80 provided with the projection unit 130, the projection unit 130 is provided with a movable lens barrel 131 provided with a movable lens group 97 in its inside, a fixed lens barrel 132 provided with a fixed lens group 93 in its inside, and a heating means 140, and the movable lens barrel 131 and the fixed lens barrel 132 are preheated by the heating means 140.
