PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a local surface plasmon resonance (LSPR) sensor element having high responsiveness to a target material. SOLUTION: This target material detection element includes a support, and an open ring-shaped metal structure having a part or a plurality of parts of gaps existing on the support surface, and is formed by fixing a capturing body of the target material on the surface of the metal structure, and by arranging it on the substrate surface.
