A self-piercing rivet fastening device has a punch that drives legs (19) of the rivet (14) into portions of workpieces (5, 6) that are forced into a die cavity (30), in order to join the workpieces. Particular surfaces (37) of the die cavity (30) are modified to increase the coefficient of friction in order to prevent tips (18) of the legs (19) of the rivet (14) from breaking through a workpiece (6) adjacent to the die (29) and forming holes in this workpiece (6). |
