A method of making a garment and a garment made thereby. The garment is made by cutting a woven fabric, which is composed of wefts (WE) and warps (WA) crossing each other in a rise- and-sink texture to form stitch places (P) and has a widthwise direction (W) identical with a direction of the wefts (WE), into a plurality of pieces of cloth conforming to body portions, and sewing the pieces with each other. The pieces of cloth (50) are bias-cut in a right-left direction (A) inclined at a predetermined angle with respect to the widthwise direction of the woven fabric (1). The bias-cut pieces of cloth are sewn such that an diagonal line (D) connecting between two of the stitching places of each of the bias-cut pieces of cloth extends in a direction (DE) along which the garment is required to expand or contract at a maximum amount.
