PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an external resonator-type wavelength variable light source capable of having a variable range of wavelength expanded by suppressing multi-mode oscillations and a mode hop, and to provide a light source apparatus equipped with the external resonator-type wavelength variable light source. SOLUTION: The external resonator-type wavelength variable light source 1 includes a laser light source 11 which emits laser light, a diffraction grating 14 where the laser light from the laser light source 11 is made incident on a diffraction surface 14a, and a movable planar mirror 15 reflecting part of laser light diffracted by the diffraction grating 14 toward the diffraction grating 14, and a resonator is composed of an end surface 11b of the laser light source 11 and a reflecting surface 15a of the planar mirror 15. The external resonator-type wavelength variable light source has a prism 13 of a refractive index of larger than 1 on the laser light incident side of the diffraction surface 14a of the diffraction grating 14.
