PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a gene transfer agent exhibiting further enhanced gene transfer efficiency and its manufacturing method. SOLUTION: The gene transfer agent comprises a branched polymer comprised of an aromatic ring as a nucleus and, radially extending therefrom, a cationic and/or nonionic branched chain, where an end of the branched chain is an N,N-disubstituted dithiocarbamylmethyl molecular group; at least one of two substituent groups on the nitrogen atom of the N,N-disubstituted dithiocarbamylmethyl molecular group is a 3C or higher hydrophobic substituent group; and a plurality of the branched polymers are crosslinked to each other to form a crosslinked body. The manufacturing method of the gene transfer agent comprises photo-irradiating the branched polymer in a dissolved and/or dispersed state in a polar solvent to cause the branched polymers to crosslink to each other.
