PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To simplify a structure, to reduce the size of the structure, to simplify control and accelerate processing, in a bar-code printer for use in printing a bar-code (9) on an item (B) transferred in front of a printing unit. SOLUTION: This bar-code printer comprises: a holding conveyor (4) composed of a pair of parallel first and second conveyors (40), (41) running while holding an item (B) from a direction perpendicular to a transferring direction; a servo-motor (5) acting as a driving source for the holding conveyor (4); a printer for use in printing a bar-code on the surface of the item (B) to be transported; and a detecting sensor (6) for use in detecting the item (B) transported to a reference position upstream side of the printing station (30). The printer is operated in the state in which the servo-motor (5) is stopped when the servo-motor (5) is rotated only by a phase corresponding to a distance where the item (B) to be transported reaches up to a printing position of the printer after the item (B) is detected by the detecting sensor (6).
