<FORM:0804087/IV (c)/1> The invention comprises leucauramines having attached to the nitrogen atom in substitution for one of the hydrogen atoms an alkyl and halo substituted phenyl group in which the halo substitutent is bromine or chlorine, and in particular compounds of the general formula shown in Fig. 1 where R is methyl and R1 is bromine or chlorine and wherein the methyl and halo groups are in the 2:3-, 2:4-, 2:5-, 3:4- and 3:5-positions of the phenyl group. The compounds are made by condensing an appropriate alkyl, and halo substituted aniline with Michler's hydrol in molar proportions in hot ethyl alcohol. Examples are given. The compounds are used in preparing transfer coatings in manifold record systems.
