PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a purification agent capable of decomposing aliphatic organic halides or aromatic organic halides contained in soil or groundwater, efficiently, continuously and economically. SOLUTION: This purification agent is an aqueous suspension containing iron compound particles as an effective component. Primary particles of the iron compound particles have rice grain-like shape with an average longitudinal diameter of 0.05-0.50μm, an axial ratio of more than 1.0 and less than 2.0, andα-Fe content of 30-99 wt. %. The particle distribution of secondary particles has a single peak. A median diameter (D<SB>50</SB>:particle diameter having a cumulative ratio of 50% to the whole volume of the iron compound particles as 100% ) is 0.5-5.0μm, and D<SB>90</SB>/D<SB>10</SB>is 1.0-5.0.
