PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve the problem that since a video AF cannot recognize the position of a subject as an absolute value, a focus lens has to be moved before and after a focusing peak in order to obtain a contrast peak, which takes much time to focus after the depression of a release button by a photographer, leading to missing of a photographing chance or capturing of an image at a wrong moment, thus the video camera forces a user to photograph a defocused image even though photographing has started. SOLUTION: An imaging apparatus has: a light separating section 3 that divides a subject image into three; and three image sensors that photo-electrically convert the separate subject images. One of the image sensors captures only the luminance signal of the subject image, and the other two captures color signals. The image sensors that captures the color signals are disposed one behind the other in the direction of an optical axis in relation to an optical distance from the photographing optical system of the image sensor that captures a luminance signal.
