PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To keep a user's sense of direction and distance in a detailed street display process after terminating route guidance. SOLUTION: The navigation apparatus for automobile determines, in the detailed street display process starting with the termination of the route guidance, the display range of a detailed street map (110-140) so that a present position and a target site are included and displays a present position marker corresponding to the present position in the determined display range and also moves the present position marker along with the progress of the present position (150, 160) while keeping fixed the reduction scale, direction and position of the detailed street display.
