PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a display device whose frame area is reduced by narrowing the width of a region in which a sealing material is disposed and to provide its manufacturing method. SOLUTION: In the display device having a pair of substrates disposed opposite to each other and the sealing material sticking the pair of substrates in an outer side region of a display region, the substrate has an underlayer of the sealing material in a region in contact with the sealing material and a contact angle to the sealing material in the region in contact with the sealing material is smaller than a contact angle to the sealing material in a peripheral region of the region in contact with the sealing material.
