PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a grating type spectrometer having high diffraction efficiency for an optical spectrometer. SOLUTION: Incident light is subjected to spectrum analysis by diffraction using a lattice. At least one portion of the incident light is divided and the divided section mainly includes one polarized component of the incident light. The remaining section of the divided section of the incident light reaches the lattice while the polarization directions are nearly in parallel with the main direction of polarization diffracted with the maximum efficiency by the lattice. For the purpose, at least the divided section is diffracted after passing through a polarization rotary element. COPYRIGHT: (C)2009,JPO&INPIT
