PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To shorten the length of a transmission in the axial direction in the transmission having six sets of forward speed change gear pairs. SOLUTION: In the transmission having six sets of forward speed change gear pairs, first to fourth intermediate shafts 14-17 are arranged in parallel with one input shaft 13, the input shaft and the fourth intermediate shaft are connected with each other through an intermediate transmission gear train 20 formed of three gears, first to third gear speed change mechanisms 20A, 20B, and 20C are arranged in parallel between the first intermediate shaft and the fourth intermediate shaft, the input shaft and the second intermediate shaft, and the input shaft and the input shaft and the third intermediate shaft, each gear speed change mechanism is arranged between two sets of forward speed change gear pairs 21a, 21b to 26a, and 26b arranged between the two shafts and two sets of forward speed change gear pairs, and each gear speed change mechanism is formed of the first to third switchover clutches 30A-30C for switching power transmission between the two shafts on the basis of the structure. Further, it is preferable that a backward intermediate shaft 18 is arranged in parallel with the input shaft and a backward gear speed change mechanism 20D formed of the backward gear train 27 and a backward switching clutch 30D between both the input shaft and the backward intermediate shaft 18 is arranged.
