PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a control device for an internal combustion engine preventing deterioration of combustion in return to fuel supply. SOLUTION: ECU 90 judges based on establishment of predetermined conditions whether an engine 11 is in a fuel cut state in which supply of fuel is stop, or not. When the engine 11 is in the fuel cut state, the ECU 90 prohibits early close control of an exhaust valve 25 to prevent blow-back of burned gas to an intake system from an inside of a cylinder 12. Consequently, deterioration of combustion due to influence of the burned gas remaining in the cylinder in returning to fuel supply can be prevented. COPYRIGHT: (C)2009,JPO&INPIT
